I wrote this song about a dear pastor friend that I knew while in a precious little place called St. Walburg, Sask. a "few years ago."

And the pastor played the banjo, like none I've ever known

Every week we'd get together; gather 'round God's holy Word
Gather up our daily cares and give 'em up to God
We would call upon our Saviour where we met in Jesus' name
Rejoicing in His tender mercy as we entered in

And the pastor played the banjo while we all clapped and sang
I remember how the Spirit moved while lifting up His name
With every prayerful strum he played, my heart was lifted higher
There's none quite like the pastor, who strummed the old banjo

Near the end of every week, we could hardly wait
But then before you knew it, our Sabbath came along
One more time we'd get together, 'round the Father's throne
Singing praises to His name; thankful that He came

Many years have come and gone, since I saw the man
Since I heard that gentle ringing of that old banjo
Still my heart goes back in time; when we praised the Lord
Yearning for that time to come, we'll hear it once again

And the pastor played the banjo, like none I've ever known
